A Clinical Analysis of 363 Cases of Hemorrhoids



Abstract
The clinical analysis was made on 363 cases of hemorrhoids who have been admitted and treated at the department of surgery, Chung Ang University hospital, from June 1968 to June, 1983, and the results were as follows.
1) The incidence of external hemorrhoids, internal hemorrhoids and mixed type were 56.7%, 24.3% and 19%, respectively.
2) The sex ratio of male to female was 2 to 1 the peak incidence was in 3rd and 4th decade (65.2%).
3) The frequent complaints of patients with hemorrhoids were bleeding (33.1%, pain (30.3%) and protruding mass (24.5%). The pain was most common in external hemorrhoids, the bleeding in internal hemorrhoids.
4) Most of patients had been suffered for more than 1 year (61.7%).
5) The previous hemorrhoidectomy was done in .8.0% (29 cases).
6) The anemia (less than 10.0 gm% of hemoglobin) was noted in 2.1 cases (9.4%). among all bleeding hemorrhoids.
7) The most common position of hemorrhoids was right-posterior (28.4%) and second-degree hemorrhoid was most common in severity (47. 1%).
8) The associated ano-rectal diseases with hemorrhoids were anal polyp (27.7%), anal fistula (26.2%) and fissure (21.6%) in its decreasing order.
9) The duration of hospitalization was between 5 to 10 days in 243 cases (66.9%). 10) The hemorrhoidectomy was done in 338 cases (93.1%) and conservative treatment in 25 cases (6.9%).
11) The postoperative complication was negligible but post-operative bleeding was noted in 7 cases (1.9%).
